“I'm coming back”
We booked this after reading all the great reviews and were not disappointed. In fact, delighted. Our own little private piece of paradise just around the corner from the main street of Ubud, with a coffee shop in front (they delivered the "best" breakfast to our Villa), restaurants within a couple of minutes of walk, but still quiet and private as if we were the only ones in the world. Once we shut our gate it was completely private - we could jump straight into the pool on our way in from sightseeing and shopping - read and rest in the air-conditioned gorgeous bedroom upstairs, watch TV downstairs. It even had a proper kitchen - which we didn't need - but it was there.
The daily fresh flowers on the bed and the towels and everywhere were a delight too. Fresh pool towels on the lounges by the pool. Extra towels in the bathroom. A bonus was the water cooler with fresh filtered cool water on tap in the living area (no need to buy water). I almost forgot the view from the top floor (bedroom) balcony. Kath and Wayan were friendly and helpful. Kath's "Australian" expertise makes that little different to give guests the added comfort and security. They recommended their drivers as trustworthy and safe when we needed one. We had daily massages with Mrs. Gusti - some in our room and some down by the pool at Sama's Cottages. I am almost reluctant to post this Review so they will not get too booked up for when we want to come back.
“Amazing place for solo female traveller”
Villa on Bisma was an amazing place to stay. It was more beautiful than the pictures and the location, about 2 minutes down Bisma from the main road, is great! Near by there's an amazing pizza restaurant (try the chocolate pizza!) and I walked to Murni's spa (10 mins slow walking) every day for a massage. It's also a 20 min walk to Radiantly Alive Yoga and Bali Buddha, which are both amazing.
A mega plus for me traveling by myself is that the entrance to the villa is right next to Kopi on Bisma (the shop owned by the same owners) and this is open until 9pm. This means there is always some one in the shop when i left and came back, with a friendly Bali smile obviously! Food is great at Kopi and you do get a discount while you are in the villa. Loved Kath and Wayan, and they both checked up on me pretty much every day! I'd return in a heartbeat.
“Oasis in Ubud”
We stayed at this beautiful little villa for 5 nights and it was fantastic, it is a private villa that is close to everything. The staff were exceptional and the owner Kath & Wayan were helpful with anything required including sending back a forgotten piece of clothing! I highly recommend anyone looking for a lovely villa that is close to everything, there is no need for a taxi as you can walk to all the key parts of town. Lastly breakfast is great - icing on the cake.
“Lovely hideaway in the heart of Ubud.” We stayed here as a couple in March/April 2014, over Nyepi (the Balinese New Year). The villa is tucked away behind Kopi on Bisma, giving it a quiet and private atmosphere. We explored the heart of Ubud on foot, with the busy Jalan Raya main street only a couple of minutes walk away. Museums, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, the famous Ubud Market, the start of the Campuhan Ridge Walk and shops are all within ten minutes walk!
After a busy day, coming home to the crisp pool and filtered water on tap was a delight. The sunsets from the upstairs balcony were really something special, too. Everything was spotlessly clean, with mini-bar style drinks in the fridge at very reasonable prices. The complimentary toiletries were great and I made good use of the ironing board and iron. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, crockery and cutlery. Breakfasts were served at Kopi on Bisma with the best cafe latte in town. The cafe staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Kathy, Wayan and their nephew Dwi all went to great lengths to ensure we were well looked after, with Kath taking time from her busy schedule to advise us on transporting our newly purchased art. They guided us through Nyepi customs, checking to make sure we had everything we needed. The service was exceptional, going well above and beyond what we could have hoped for and we were very impressed. When we left, we felt like we had been staying with friends. I highly recommend Villa on Bisma, a private little slice of luxury hidden away in the bustle of Ubud.

We at Sama's Cottages & Villas take pride in the fact that we are a registered legitimate property in Ubud, Bali. We actively and consciously abide by all Indonesian laws and taxes, and we are involved in the local community, often assisting those in need. Our staff are like family to us and we pay them above the award wages, plus provide them with Government health programs that are on offer. We work hard to look after them and their families and in turn they are diligent in looking after our property and guests.
